Fayaz Jaffer
Audiologist & CI Specialist
HHP, BA (Hons), MSc Audiology
Fayaz is the Founder and Managing Director of HearWell Audiology Clinic and is widely regarded as a pioneer of Audiology in Tanzania. He has played a key role in advancing ear and hearing care services in the country, helping establish standards of care and contributing significantly to the development of a local national Cochlear Implant Program in Tanzania.
With an academic background in Business, Information Technology, Hearing Healthcare, and Clinical Audiology, Fayaz specializes in the fitting and programming of advanced Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants (CI). He has undergone extensive international training, including training in Public Health Planning for Hearing Impairment, and is highly skilled in hearing rehabilitation and cochlear implant care.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Audiology and Hearing Therapy and serves as the Cochlear Implant Specialist at HearWell. His pioneering research, “Rehabilitation Outcomes in Children with Cochlear Implants in Tanzania,” was the first of its kind in the country and was published in the Global Journal of Otolaryngology.
Fayaz strongly believes in local capacity building and professional development within the field of hearing healthcare. He has initiated and supported numerous training programs for ENT Surgeons, Audiologists, Speech Therapists, and other hearing healthcare professionals in Tanzania. Through collaborations with organizations such as MED-EL, Austrian Development Agency, Hearing Healthcare Alliance, and Signia, he has helped organize advanced surgical, audiology, and rehabilitation training initiatives.
These initiatives include ENT surgical training programs at the state-of-the-art Surgical Skills Lab at Muhimbili National Hospital, rehabilitation workshops for Speech Therapists and parents of children with hearing devices, as well as Audiology workshops aimed at strengthening local expertise and improving hearing healthcare services across the country.
Fayaz is also a founding member of the Cochlear Implant Group of Tanzania (CIGT) and contributed to the first locally performed Cochlear Implant surgeries at Muhimbili National Hospital in June 2017. He is a member of the International Hearing Society and also serves on the governing council of the Tanzania ENT Society.
Rashida Hassuji
Audiologist & Speech and Language Pathologist
BASLP, MSc Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy
Rashida is a full-time Clinical Audiologist and Speech Language Pathologist at HearWell and is widely recognized as one of the most renowned Speech Language Pathologists in Tanzania, with clinical experience dating back to 2011. As a dual-profession expert qualified in both Clinical Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, she brings extensive expertise in the diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation of hearing, speech, language, and communication disorders across both pediatric and adult populations.
Her primary areas of specialization include rehabilitation for children with Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants, as well as therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders and other neurological and communication challenges. She also works closely with adults experiencing stroke-related communication difficulties, swallowing disorders, and voice disorders.
Over the years, Rashida has worked in diverse clinical settings, conducting hundreds of hearing evaluations and speech therapy sessions. Her areas of focus include Hearing Evaluations, Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing, Speech and Language Evaluation, Tinnitus Therapy, and Speech Therapy.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy and has contributed to research in the field through studies including “Speech and Swallowing Outcomes in Buccal Mucosa Carcinoma” and “Parental Perspective Pre- and Post-Cochlear Implants in Tanzania.”
Rashida is also a visiting specialist at Aga Khan Hospital, where she is involved in running a Neonatal Hearing Screening Program aimed at promoting early identification and intervention for hearing loss in infants.
In addition, she is a certified trainer for speech therapy rehabilitation modules for children with Cochlear Implants through MED-EL. She actively conducts and delivers the Family Curriculum program for parents, caregivers, and Speech Therapists, focusing on empowering families with practical rehabilitation strategies and improving outcomes for children with hearing devices.
She is a member of the International Hearing Society and an associate member of the Tanzania ENT Society.
Ali Jaffer
Clinical Audiologist & Vestibular Specialist
MSc Audiology, BSc Healthcare Science (Audiology)
Ali has been a full-time Clinical Audiologist since 2018, after completing his degree and clinical training at Aston University in the UK. With experience across multiple audiology sub-specialties, he has played a key role in expanding access to advanced hearing and balance services in Tanzania.
Specializing in Cochlear Implants (CIs), Ali provides comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-operative care for CI patients. To date, he has overseen more than one hundred cochlear implant surgeries locally. He is also trained in temporal bone radiology and regularly assists in patient evaluations to determine candidacy. In addition, Ali contributes to the training of otologists and cochlear implant surgeons through the temporal bone laboratory at Muhimbili National Hospital.
Ali’s primary area of interest is vestibular disorders. After extensive international training, he established Tanzania’s first dedicated vestibular clinic in 2018. Since then, he has assessed, diagnosed, and managed nearly two thousand patients with dizziness and vertigo, helping to introduce a more comprehensive standard of vestibular care through objective testing, evidence-based rehabilitation, and a patient-centred approach.
Beyond clinical practice, Ali is actively involved in global research initiatives in ear and hearing care. He is a member of the Global OHNS Initiative and has contributed to publications in areas including cochlear implants and vestibular migraine.
Rosemary Massae
Front Desk Manager
Rosemary is a qualified Special Needs Educator and serves as the Front Office Manager and Administrative Assistant at HearWell. As the first point of contact for patients and families, she is dedicated to creating a warm, comfortable, and supportive patient journey while ensuring smooth clinic operations.
She has extensive experience in patient care and has undergone training in Customer Care, Counselling Hearing Aid Patients, Hearing Aid Trials, and Hearing Aid Servicing, allowing her to support patients with professionalism and compassion.
Esther Jingu
SLP Assistant / Marketing Assistant
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Esther is dedicated team member who supports speech therapy sessions for hearing aid users and cochlear implant recipients. She assists patients in developing communication and listening skills through guided therapy activities and rehabilitation support. She has been trained in rehabilitation specifically for Hearing Device users.
She also plays an active role in clinic marketing, patient awareness programs, promotions, and community engagement initiatives to enhance outreach and service awareness.
Sarah Kimaro
SLP Assistant
Qualified in Bachelors of Education (Special Needs), Sarah is a compassionate professional who assists in conducting speech therapy for children with hearing devices and children with special needs, including autism spectrum disorders. She supports communication, language development, and individualized learning approaches to help children achieve their full potential.
She is also proficient in sign language communication and interpretation, enabling effective interaction with children and families from the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
Maria Sagirai
SLP Assistant / Counsellor
Maria is an Assistant Speech Therapist and Counsellor at HearWell with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, specializing in Educational Psychology. She is actively involved in speech therapy services, with a special focus on supporting children with special needs and helping them develop effective communication skills.
Maria also works closely with parents and caregivers, providing counselling and guidance to help them better understand their children’s needs, navigate rehabilitation challenges, and maintain a positive and supportive approach throughout the rehabilitation journey.
